How to Prepare Photo for Internet

Resize Photos for E-mail

Today's digital cameras shoot large-sized images. This is great for making prints, but it is a bad thing when you're sharing images. You don't want to bog down someone's e-mail, for instance, with oversized files. Plus, many e-mail programs won't send or receive large files. If you are posting the images to the Web, it will take too long to load and look weird in its original size.
For the purposes of this tutorial, I am using WinWatermark, as it is a popular photo editing software program.
Step 1: Start working with your picture
First of all, run your WinWatermark. You can see “Add Folder” and “Add Files” on the right. You can click them to upload photos to program. If you click “Add Folder”, you'll browse image folder and then choose one. If you click “Add Files”, just choose the image files and open them.
Step2: Resize your picture
At the left side of your program, you can see the “Resize” button. Click it to open "Resize Image" window to set image resizing parameters.
Step3: Resizing Process
Look for the sections entitled “Resize Mode”. There are three modes: Relative size, Relative Portion and Absolute size. Assuming your image size is 600x600(width×height). Let's take “Absolute Size Mode” for example: If you select this mode to resize image, and you define the parameters as: Resize Width 400, Resize Height 300. The destination size will be 400x300.
Step4: Approve the Appearance and size
In order to make sure that you are happy with the results, you can click “Update Preview” button to update image preview to current resizing setting. You can click “OK” button to close window and save resizing settings, or click “Apply” button to save settings without closing window. If you are not pleased with the results, you can click “Reset” button to reset setting (cancel resizing setting), or click “Cancel” button to close window without saving settings.
To confirm that your image file size is small enough, just click the button in the right corner. You can output the image. And then float your mouse over the name or image. You will see the dimensions and file size. You should aim for a file size below 300K.
Now your image is a reasonable size, and is ready to be sent by e-mail without presenting a nuisance to the viewers.
